Zuda

So maybe I'm a bit behind the curve here, but a few weeks ago I finally decided to check out DC's online experiment, Zuda Comics. Now I was a bit hesitant to check out Zuda just because I've never really been one to read comics online. For some reason, a computer screen isn't nearly as rewarding as holding the printed page. But despite this, there were actually some really great books on there.

And while I've only just begun to scratch the surface of what Zuda has to offer, here are some of the books I found that I don't mind staring at a computer screen to read.

This is easily one of the best comics I've found on Zuda so far. Bayou is set in the pre-World War II South and tells the story of a young black girl who sets out into a strange world of gods and monsters to try and find a little girl her father is accused of killing. The first 98 pages of the story are up on Zuda and the story is just starting to get good. I'm very excited to see what happens next.

In the first few pages of Battlefield Babysitter, it makes sure to point out that it's not a typical superhero comic. And as you read on, you see that it's not. It's the story of a girl who is the only non-superpowered member of her family. In it's eight pages the story has yet to get a chance to pick up, but from what I've read, I'm looking forward to when it does.

I think the tagline on this picture says it best, "Ultra violent girl gangs fight for survival in a world full of zombies". Black Cherry Bombshells is a really fun comic that's equal parts Dawn of the Dead and Mad Max. But if that's not enough to win you over, the story also gives us a perfect antagonist for it's post apocaliptic world. A ruthless and evil female Elvis impersonator/warlord who is looking to take down Black Cherry and the rest of her gang. Yeah, you read that right.

I don't exactly know what to make of Laura's Bazaar, just yet. I'm not exactly sure what was going on in the story but it was still well written and I enjoyed it and the artwork was engaging enough to keep my attention.

Among the Silver Stars looks like it has a lot of potential. Judging from the synopsis and the 8 pages they had, it could be a really cool comic. The artwork has a really great quality that works very well for the book, and the story could have a lot to offer. We'll see what happens.

So there's my first look at Zuda Comics, there's still a lot I have to explore on there, and when I get the chance, we'll see what my next visit has to offer.

Thanks for visiting my work at Comic Space. I also have a blog, where I put my illustrations. It's in Portuguese, but fortunately the imagens don't need to be translated.

Kisses
